This week in Technology in Music Education, our class pitched ideas for the final project assessment. I really enjoyed hearing everyone's ideas and was impressed with the creativity some students demonstrated. My plan for the final project is to engage with recording technology and produce a high quality video with audio of a large ensemble performance. I believe this would be very useful to learn about as understanding how to create an effective recording is crucial in the classroom. The skills I hope to learn will allow me to ensure quality recordings for; HSC compositions and performances, class projects, school performances and events. At the moment I have limited understanding of using recording devices such as cameras and microphones as well as very very basic understanding of editing software such as imovie, video editor and Adobe Rush. I have initiated some trial runs with the equipment available at the Conservatorium, I have set up a camera to record with sound in my Friday evening rehearsals. This has been done with varying success. My main issue is accessing and formatting the SD card as it seems like the camera does not read the card. I have been able to borrow another card in these situations which has fixed the problem. I am reluctant to buy a new card as the shop does not have a return policy for opened items and the original SD card was expensive. I plan to take it in to another local camera shop to ask for advice.

The second half of our lesson was devoted to experimenting with performance technology. My favorite was the program Melodics: https://www.melodics.com/

This app encourages students to engage with and practice music in a way that is very accessible as it doesn't rely on notation. The lay out reminds me of a game that was popular when I was younger called Piano Tiles, it is also used in Guitar Hero and other music focused games. This would be an excellent resource to pair with electronic drum kit, midi keyboard or midi controller.
